Glass Cutting Board Craft

Making a customized gift has never been so easy! I started making customized glass cutting boards earlier this year and love how inexpensive and easy they are! Below are the list of supplies you will need as well as step by step instructions. You may already have most of this on hand, which makes it even easier! For my first few sets, I've used scrap fabric that I had on hand leftover from other projects. You can also use scrapbook paper and these will look just as nice! As we use dishwasher safe Mod Podge with this craft, you can run these through the top rack of the dishwasher, but, I still recommended hand washing just to take better care of the cutting board. You spend a lot more time waiting for the Mod Podge to dry than you do actually putting this together, so patience is your friend here! PS - I use boards with tempered glass, so it does make the images look a little fuzzy in the pictures.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

Glass Cutting boards - I get mine at Dollar Tree. At Dollar Tree, the square boards are 7.75 inches square and the circular boards have a 7.75 inch circumference. The At Home store has larger rectangles for around $6. Amazon has several options as well, but they are a little more expensive than in the stores.

Fabric or scrapbook paper in the pattern/colors of you choosing. Here are a few links to different Holiday fabric sets from Amazon:

Sponge brush or cheap paint brush

Scissors or box knife

Alcohol wipe or glass cleaner

Super Glue

STEPS:

Step 1: Turn the cutting board to the back facing up, and use scissors or a knife to push up and remove the rubber footings. Do not throw away the footings as we will put those back on at the end of the project.

Step 2: Clean the backside of the glass with rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner. Be sure to remove all of the glue reside left from the removal of the footings.

Step 3: Lay your fabric or paper out and place the cutting board over it. Move the board around until you've got the pattern positioned how you want it to be seen on the board. Once you have that done, cut the fabric/paper out slightly larger than the board so that you have a little extra fabric/paper to work with. Don't worry, any excess fabric or paper will get trimmed off later on.

Step 4: Using the Dishwasher safe Mod Podge, spread a generous and even coat of Mod Podge on the flat/clear side of the cutting board. Then, lay your fabric or paper colored side facing down in the layer of Mod Podge. Smooth the fabric or paper out well, so that there are no bubbles or creases left.

Step 5:Apply another coat of Mod Podge over the fabric. Allow to dry for 1 to 2 hours, and then apply another coat of Mod Podge. Allow to dry overnight.

Step 6: Using scissors or a box knife, trim off all of the excess fabric or paper from around the cutting board.

Step 7: Using super glue, attach the rubber footings to the bottom/underside of the cutting board and let dry per the time listed on your super glue bottle/tube.

Step 8: Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge has to cure for 28 days in order to form the hard shell needed to keep the board dishwasher safe. During that time, the board can be used, it just cannot go into the dishwasher and should only have limited contact with water. Wipe it off to clean it, don't submerge in water until the curing time has ended.
